Our greatest advantage lies in our strength as a community-oriented music and dance school with a large number of supporters.
Zambaleta Community World Music & Dance School, a nonprofit based in San Francisco’s Mission District, offers world music and dance classes on a sliding scale to adults and free classes to schoolchildren and their parents through our scholarship program. Our aim is to provide access to music and culture from around the world and enable children and adults to experience and learn about their own and other cultures through the voice of music and dance.
To support our music outreach initiatives in the Mission District we hold an annual benefit. Last year’s fundraising event was a two-day festival called Walk like an Egyptian. Taking place at The Restoration Workshop in San Francisco’s Mission District, Walk like an Egyptian hosted a generous lineup with some of the Bay Area’s top musical acts, such as Kacey Johansing and Annie Bacon’s Folk Opera. Attendance was around 2,000 people and had media coverage from the SF Chronicle, SF Weekly, SF Guardian and Yelp!
